Italy, Kingdom, Lake Tana Victory Medal 1936, 41mm, bronze and enamel, light contact marks and with attractive enamel design, very fine
The medal commemorates the victory at Lake Tana in the Amhara region of Abyssinia (modern day Ethiopia). Following the military operations under the command of Lieutenant General A. Starace, Italian forces defeated the defenders of Gondar, 1 April 1936. After fighting and marching over nearly 300km, the Italian flag was raised and the Victory Lighthouse built - observed in the art deco design of the medal. Another example is held in the collection of the Wolfsonian Museum, Florida.
