Italy, Garibaldi Medal for 1860, 52mm, silver, fitted with small swivel-suspension, and contemporarily engraved, 'Douglas Feldwick One of the Body Guard to the Gallant General April 12th 1864', nearly very fine and an interesting item worthly of further study

Giuseppe Garibaldi is considered by many as one of the 'fathers of Italy' following his political and military endeavours which led to the creation of the Kingdom of Italy in 1861. He visited London in 1864 on the invitation of the Duke of Sutherland and Mr. Seely, M.P., with a great deal of popular support behind him following the 'Expedition of the Thousand' in the defeat of the Bourbons. The three week visit included lunch at Chiswick House on 12 April 1864, on the invitation of the Duchess of Sutherland.
