Some confusion appears to surround the recipient's true given names: he would appear to be Francis Joseph Wellesley Colley, since he was otherwise known as Frank - not Francis - and presumably chose not to use his second given name. If so, he was educated at Stonyhurst College and was commissioned in the South Nottinghamshire Hussars Yeomanry in October 1914.

The MIC for 'Frank Wellesley Colley' states that he arrived in France on 5 February 1918 and was attached to the 7th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers. He died in Nottinghamshire in September 1962, aged 87; sold with copied research.
