(x) East Riding of Yorkshire Yeomanry
Three: Private C. V. Henning, 1/1st East Riding of Yorkshire Yeomanry and a likely participant in the famous cavalry charge at El Mughar in November 1917
1914-15 Star (1060 Pte. - A. Cpl. C. V. Henning, E.R. of York. Y.); British War and Victory Medals (1060 A. Cpl. C. V. Henning, E.R. of York. Y.), generally very fine (3)
Cecil Henning arrived in Egypt on 10 November 1915, so he must have been a soldier of 1/1st East Riding of Yorkshire Yeomanry. He would therefore have participated in the Palestine operations 1917-18.
During the course of the Third Battle of Gaza, the 1/1st East Riding of Yorkshire Yeomanry participated in the famous cavalry charge at El Mughar on 13 November 1917, one of the last great charges undertaken by British cavalry: galloping over open ground, they seized a Turkish position and took 70 prisoners.
In the following month, Henning and his comrades were dismounted to form 102nd Battalion, Machine Gun Corps (Mobile), and it was in this capacity that they saw the war out in France; sold with copied MIC.
