Frank Hainsworth was embarked for Egypt in April 1915 and landed at Suvla, Gallipoli on the night of 17-18 August 1915, where his unit - the 1/1st Derbyshire Yeomanry - was attached to 3rd (Mounted) Brigade. It subsequently saw action at Chocolate and Scimitar Hills and suffered heavy casualties, so much so that it was amalgamated with other yeomanry units to form 3rd Battalion, Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, in September 1915.
