John James McMahon was born in Liverpool, Lancashire on 13 July 1925 and enlisted in the Manchester Regiment in November 1943. Transferring to the Parachute Regiment (A.A.C.) in May 1945, he qualified for his Parachute Badge that July and remained similarly employed until transferring to the Army Reserve in September 1947.

In October 1950, he enlisted in the Regular Army with an appointment in the Royal Signals, in which capacity he witnessed active service in Korea in the period February 1953 to March 1954, and in Malaya in the period March 1954 to August 1955. He was placed back on the Army Reserve as a Corporal in September of the latter year and was finally discharged in October 1962.

Sold with a quantity of original documentation including his wartime Soldier's Service and Pay Book; Certificate of Transfer to the Army Reserve, dated 8 September 1947; Copy of Regular Army Attestation, dated 25 October 1950; Regular Army Certificate of Service, which confirms his entitlement to all of the above Medals & clasps; and his Parachute Regiment Old Comrades Association membership cards for 1957 and 1976.
