Arthur Devonshire was born at Palmerston North on 1 July 1922 and joined the Royal New Zealand Navy in February 1942. He subsequently served as an Able Seaman (Radar), his seagoing appointments including time in the Indian Ocean and Mediterranean, including a stint of service in H.M.N.Z.S Achilles in the period May-October 1944. His final appointment was in the Philomel, the depot ship for Auckland's fleet of patrol boats and he came ashore in October 1945; sold with copied service record, including verification for the above campaign awards.
