An accompanying note states that Bishop served in the 5th Battalion, Parachute Regiment (A.A.C.) during the 1939-45 War.
The unit was formed in March 1942 and became part of 2nd Parachute Brigade, 1st Airborne Division. It first saw action in Italy in the summer of 1943, when it came ashore at Taranto, and remained deployed in that theatre of war until the following year, latterly as a component of 2nd Independent Parachute Brigade. Re-embarked for the U.K., the Battalion was dropped over Normandy on D-Day and gained some notable objectives before returning to Italy.
