Shpt., R.N.); Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., E.VII.R. (343707 W. E. Fifield, Ldg. Shipwright, H.M.S. Crescent), this with officially corrected number and rate, the first and last with contact marks and polished, good fine or better, the remainder very fine (5)

William Eli Fifield was born at Headley, Hampshire in December 1875 and entered the Royal Navy as Carpenter's Crew aboard H.M.S. Centurion in July 1900, direct from the Royal Marine Artillery. He was quickly deployed as a Bluejacket in China and was present in the relief of Pekin operations (Medal & clasp). Having then been awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in November 1910, he served throughout the Great War in the repair ship Assistance and came ashore as a Chief Shipwright in June 1919; sold with copied service record.
