Tasked with taking Fort Dologorodoc in the days prior, the 2nd Battalion suffered heavy artillery, mortar and machine-gun fire from the Italian forces, consolidating their attack upon 'Cameron Ridge' before being withdrawn on the date of the wounds suffered by Burnett. Following his recovery, he was wounded again on 28 June 1942 during the fall of Tobruk and subsequently posted missing.
