(x) Ashanti 1900, 1 clasp, Kumassi (2036 Pte. Neti Grunshi. G.C.C.), nearly very fine
Approximately 100 men of the Gold Coast Constabulary under Captain Middlemist broke through to the beseiged Fort of Kumassi on 18 April 1900, in the initial relief effort. By 23 June 1900, when the total force numbered around 6,000, the British were able to withdraw Sir Frederick and Lady Hodgson: casualties totalled 58 British Officers, 10 N.C.O's and over 900 natives and two V.C's and 12 D.C.Ms were awarded for the campaign.
