Abyssinia 1867-68 (699 J. Bowden, 33rd D.W. Regt.), very fine

John Bowden was born at Kilkenny in 1837 and attested for the 3rd Foot in Ireland in January 1859. He subsequently transferred to 109th Foot and thence, in November 1867, to the 33rd Regiment, in which latter capacity he served in the Abyssinia campaign. He also served in the East Indies and China and was discharged on account of 'general disability - Induced by service and climate' in September 1876, having served 17 years with the Colours; his name appeared 22 times in the defaulters book.
