Ramjilal Singh joined the Indian Army in June 1912 and was advanced to Jemadar in the 2nd Battalion, 4th Prince Albert Victor's Rajputs, in September 1918. Following his part in the Waziristan operations in 1919-21, he was seconded to the Royal Field Artillery and, having been appointed Subadar in October 1925, he was still serving at the R.A's Training Centre in India in the late 1920s.
