Four: Lieutenant G. R. C. Single, Essex Regiment, who was killed in action in North Africa in 1943

1939-1945 Star; Africa Star, clasp, 1st Army; War Medal 1939-45, with named enclosure to 'Lieutenant G. R. C. Single', in their card box of issue addressed to 'S. R. Single Esq., 1A Clarendon Mansions, Kings Rd., Brighton, Sussex', together with his father's Special Constabulary Long Service Medal, G.V.R. (Samuel R. Single), nearly extremely fine (5)

Geoffrey Robert Charles Single, was born in 1921, the son of Samuel Robert and Beatrice Elizabeth Single of Brighton. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Essex Regiment in December 1939, direct from the 163rd (Artists' Rifles) Officer Cadet Training Unit, he was posted to the 1/4th Battalion. He was subsequently killed in action in North Africa on 6 April 1943, on which date 12 men from his Battalion were killed, Single being the sole officer casualty. He is buried in Sfax War Cemetery, Tunisia.
