British War Medal 1914-20 (2. Lieut. G. S. Hayes), good very fine

Gordon Stanley Hayes was born in 1885, the son of Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Hayes, 2 Craigerne Road, Blackheath, London. He entered the French theatre of war as a Temporary Staff Sergeant-Major in the Army Service Corps on 19 February 1915. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal West Kent Regiment in August 1917, he was attached to the 5th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment in Italy, where he was killed in action on 15 June 1918, most likely in the Battle of Asiago Plateau. He is buried in the Boscon Military Cemetery, Italy.
