#1 var., 1863 1/2r Blue, diagonal bisect, a single diagonally bisected ""medio real"" from Plate 2 tied to lovely canary colored unsealed cover from San Jose by boxed ""8 Feb 78"" datestamp (SJ-Pmk6), this printed matter cover bears an impressive albino embossed sender´s cachet ""Compania Del Monte Aguacate"" (a gold mining company operating in Alajuela Province), large double circle ""San Jose/Feb 8, 1878/Costa Rica"" in blue on reverse, one small central spot, overall very fine and extraordinarily handsome; the postal rates of June 12, 1872 allowed Postmasters the discretion of charging certain printed matter items at the small package rate of 2 1/2c per ounce, the use of a bisected ""medio real"" was, at this date, the equivalent to this 2 1/2c rate; one of only three recorded ""medio real"" bisected usages on internal mail; 1997 Rica Estimate US$ 2,000-2,400
