Auction: 16USA - The Frederick R Mayer Collection of Costa Rica
Lot: 213
Massive postal stationery accumulation of approximately over 4,000 items, nearly all are pre-1940 entires or postal cards, while there is a large amount of mint present, much of the value and interest is in the many hundreds of used items, with a number of better usages noted such as foreign destinations, scarce cancels, official mail, some with adhesives also tied, in addition there are some proofs and ""Specimen"" or ""Muestra"" overprints, several of the better items are still on the original auction or retail cards, Mr. Mayer noted as having paid $100.00 or more on quite of few, generally fine-very fine; when a lot of this size comes to the market, many people will be under the false assumption that there is a plentiful supply available, however Mr. Mayer was the most aggressive buyer over the last several decades and this lot probably represents a large portion of existing Costa Rica postal stationery (especially among the used) - this is a once-in-a-lifetime oppo Estimate US$ 2,000-2,400
