Italian Post Office at Alexandria, March 16, 1865 cover to Livorno franked by 1863-65 London printing 60c, separated by scissors and with some trimmed perforations on three sides, mistakenly not cancelled at departure, showing “Alessandria D’Egitto/Poste Italiane” datestamp and boxed “Piroscafi/Postali/Italiani” handstamp adjacent, with the stamp, after landing in Italy, being neatly cancelled in transit by the Papal States lozenge of Ancona, struck with arrival c.d.s. on back, illustrated on page 238 by Zanaria-Serra-Del Negro in their handbook dedicated to the Italian P.O.’s Abroad, the only cover recorded originating from Alexandria and cancelled with the “Griglia Pontificia” cancellation; signed Holcombe and accompanied by 2009 Colla certificate.
