Nineteenth century Quaker Date postal history correspondence, a total of 117 covers, the vast majority with letters included either as a folded letter or enclosure in envelope (most with typed transcriptions of the letters), this is personal correspondence within a Quaker community, often to or from Sandy Spring, Maryland, covers start as early as 1831 with stampless covers posted to Sandy Spring datelined with a Quaker date where the month is noted as a number rather than a name. such as as "7th Month" instead of "July" to avoid making reference to pagan names, of most importance are the covers with these Quaker dates found in the post marks, there are seventeen stampless covers of the 1840-50s period with double circle "Sandy Spring/ Maryland" c.d.s. in red or black with Quaker dates in the postmark, plus another 54 stamped covers with this same postmark in black or blue with Quaker dates, we also note two 1850s stampless letters with ms. "Milestown, Pa/12 Mo 23./ 50" or "2 Mo 18 of 51", both being quite scarce, condition is quite normal for the period with some normal postal wear and a few cover faults, overall fine-very fine; an interesting lot, much of which is during the Civil War period and interesting reading with "Thee"s and "Thou"s throughout in the text.
