1868 (28 Dec.) stampless envelope from LaTrobe to Hobart, marked "On Public Service Only", showing "51" numeral at upper right, manuscript "La Trobe 28/12/68" at lower left and, on reverse, Launceston diamond-framed "post-office/launceston" and "free" datestamps in red (29.12). The status of the letter was then rejected with unframed "not stamped" h.s. applied on face and returned to LaTrobe. The letter was then franked with1857-67 1d. carmine strip of four which was affixed at right only and cancelled "51", then re-forwarded to Launceston (5.2), reaching Hobart two days later; the envelope with some pinholes.
