Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Salisbury
1888 (18 January) mourning letter with raised address from Hatfield House, Hatfield to Baron Alfons von Pawel-Rammingen at Hampton Court Palace, "I am much obliged to you for your letter. I have made enquiries with respect to the Baroness von Malortie. Someday, when I have the honour of meeting you again, I will tell you the details that I have heard from those who knew her before her marriage: but they are not suitable for a letter ..." and is signed "Salisbury". With the original Foreign Office envelope (the stamp has been cut off)

Robert Arthur Talbot Gascoyne-Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Salisbury, KG, GCVO, PC, FRS (1830 – 1903), was a British Conservative statesman, serving as Prime Minister three times for a total of over 13 years. He also served for short periods as Chancellor of the University of Oxford and as President of the British Association for the Advancement of Science. He was the last Prime Minister to head his full administration from the House of Lords.
