1792 (23 Nov.) three page letter from Lieut. Philip Beaver at Bolama. The letter to his brother and mother was written the day the "Calypso" had left with 86 people being more than half the remaining settlers. 275 persons had departed from England on 13 April 1792 on board the "Calypso", the "Hankey" and the cutter "Beggar's Benison" to form a British settlement on the island of Bulama. This letter sent by the "Hankey" was written immediately after one to the Trustees explaining why the settlers had left. Beaver's African Memorandum (1805) states that he was so ill that he kept no copy of the letter
