1887-88 archive material relating to the 1888 introduction of new cancellations in stamping offices, including hand painted essays for 'Liverpool' embossed cancellation, painted over general duty issues of 1887, one sheet of sketch designs featuring oval, curved, circular and wavy edged band designs, a formalised follow up sheet bearing an exquisitely produced trio of circular, oval and rectangular designs, endorsed "Mr Peacock is strongly in favour of a die of the Band-shape", two sheets bearing proof impressions of cancellations for Liverpool (2) and Birmingham, a letter from "Mr J. Suorder" suggesting a "modification of the system", for cancelling general duty stamps, explaining his proposed process of embossing over small adhesive designs with his own charmingly hand painted essays (3), lastly 1887 2d. to £10 set of thirty blue General Duty stamps, all overprinted specimen affixed to Inland Revenue headed paper.
