1848 (30 July) from Bolton to the "Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Co. Manchester" with a superb and upright strike of the exceptionally rare red "horwich/lanc/p1d" uniform Penny Post mark (Willcocks & Jay 545); light unobtrusive filing folds (one crossing the mark) and the front of the entire has been partially overwritten, still very fine and a wonderful example of this popular and striking marking which received the highest rating of all the marks listed in the 1952 Robson Lowe encyclopedia.
