Grenada
1883 Revenue Stamp Additionally Overprinted "POSTAGE"
Small Letters "postage" on half of 1d. orange, 1883 (2 Feb.) unsealed envelope to Trinidad with the provisional surcharge tied by a light strike of the small Grenada c.d.s. type D5 in blue with index "A", a good strike of the large "T" alongside, also in blue and manuscript "5cts" in blue crayon; small fault at the foot of the adhesive, horizontal crease at foot and a small part of one of the side flaps missing. Rare. Photo

The ½d. franking was the correct inter-island rate for printed matter, which was all sent to Britain for sea passage. In February, Grenada began to charge postage due to these covers (which were often philatelic) to recover the fee for its postal services, even though this was against U.P.U. regulations
