The Inventor of the Postage Stamp. The Great Debate Between the Sons of Rowland Hill and James Chalmers
1884 (28 Mar.) four page letter from Patrick Chalmers, to Mr. E. Halford, written on Oriental Club note paper, with interesting contents, including "For Rowland Hill to pretend that he obtained the idea as a result of a calculation, about 1/35th of a penny is preposterous - the whole thing was in shape when, idle and in want of a job, he plunged into postal reforming circles. Thus Pearson Hill has been attacking me for denying his originality....."; a fine letter. Photo
