Lot: 997

(x) St. Lucia
1949-50 6c. orange, variety imperforate between stamp and margin at left, neatly tied by Soufriere c.d.s. on 1949 (1 Oct.) envelope (with letter from the finder of the sheet) to Castries, fine. Extremely rare. Murray Payne 32a, £8,500. Photo

Note: A single sheet was discovered imperforate between left margin and first vertical row of stamps on the first day of issue at Soufriere. Because of the sheet make up (15x8) only eight examples of this stamp can exist. It is known that they were divided up into three pairs and two singles and placed on five covers postmarked "soufriere 1 oc 49"
