(x) Northern Rhodesia
1938-52 Issue
1½d. carmine-red block of four, variety imperforate between horizontal pairs, lightly mounted mint; a few shortish perfs. at left, lower right stamp thinned at corner and gum with a few tone marks not affecting fine appearance. A great rarity. B.P.A. Certificate (1987). S.G. 29a, £60,000+. Photo

Note: This remarkable block of four is believed to come from the sheet purchased by Mr. Adam Thom at Mufulira Post Office in 1938. This and a further block of four, a photograph of which was found in the Sam Kelly collection, together with the unique block of twelve offered by Spink in April 2015, are the only examples of this very rare variety known. The current whereabouts of the Kelly photo block is not known. See "The Rhodesian Philatelist" No. 10, December 1995
