1941 Surcharges
2½d. on 2d. scarlet, a top left corner block of twelve (4x3), the top right stamp with surcharge omitted and two others with surcharge partially omitted, fine mint. One of two known and one of the great Australian rarities from the King George VI period. S.G. 200a, £14,000; BW 222cb, $25,000. Photo
Note: A sheet from a plate with two gutter lines showed Nos. L1/4 and L1/5 with surcharge omitted, and L1/3, L2/4 and L2/5 with surcharge partly omitted. This was apparently caused by foreign matter adhering to a sheet during surcharging. The top rows of the left pane were subsequently divided, yielding two blocks, both with one stamp showing the surcharge completely omitted.
