First published by Rashleigh in 1869 (NC, illustrated pl. i, I), where it was attributed to Aethelwald Moll. This attribution was followed by Grantley. C.S.S. Lyon, in a 1956 reappraisal of the Sceatta and Styca coinage of Northumbria in the BNJ proposed that Alchred was a more likely attribution. This attribution is now widely accepted.
