The Mint, Birmingham, Ltd., a large group of cancelled certificates, all reglued in the original share books, 1892 through 1955, comprisies numbers 1101 - 1200, all 18[92], all with signature of Walter Heaton as secretary, scrollwork at left, black; numbers 2601 - 2700, 190[8] and [9], some signed by Ralph Heaton as director, different design and thicker paper than previous; numbers 2001 - 2100, 19[39] to [42], most signed R. Heaton as secretary; numbers 2201 - 2300, 19[43] to [45] and 2401 - 2500, 19[47] to [49], signed R. Heaton as secretary, no scrollwork in the design, and lastly numbers A2101 to 2198, 1950's, signed R. Heaton as secretary, blue, all with company seal holed as cancellation, mixed condition fine and very fine. (approx 700)

Ralph Heaton & Sons started minting tokens and coins in 1850 some for the Royal Mint and also some foreign governments. The presses were acquired from the liquidated business of Matthew Boulton's Soho Mint. The family business was converted nto this Limited Liability company in 1889. In the 1920's sheet metal and tubes became the mainstay of the busness as much of their business was undertaken by the Royal Mint. In 1949 and a few years in 1950's the company produced strikings of the famous Maria Theresa taler dated 1780 as a silver bullion coin. Acquired by J.F.T Law & Co. Ltd. in 2003.
