Finland: Olympia, Lottery Loan, , 200 mark, Helsingfors 1938, series 0310, no.0463, javelin thrower and runners in top corners, olympic rings and flame in centre, green and black,

The Olympic Games of 1940 were originally awarded to Tokyo but due to the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese War in 1937 the games were forfeited and awarded to Helsinki in 1938. This loan was made to raise funds needed to hold the games at relatively short notice. unfortunately they never took place due to the outbreak of WWII. Games were not held agan until those in London in 1948. Not all was lost however as the new Stadium in Helsinki was used for the annual Finland-Sweden athletics meeting which also included Germany. Helsinki finally hosted the Olympic games in 1952.
