The company was founded in 1855 and was one of the four important gas company in the Austrian capital. The gasworks were in Gaudenzdorf and supplied suburban areas of Fünfhaus, Sechshaus, Rudolfsheim, Gaudenzdorf, Ober- and Untermeidling, Hetzendorf, Altmannsdorf and parts of Neulerchenfeld. In 1872 the company was transformed into the "Wiener Gasindustrie-Gesellschaft" and later became the "Österreichischen Gasbeleuchtungs-Aktiengesellschaft".
