Portois & Fix was an important furniture maker and interior decorator, founded in 1881 by Anton Fix (1846-1918), upholsterer from Vienna, and by the French August Portois (1841-1895), Portois & Fix worked closely with many artists from the "Wiener Moderne" and the Vienna's Workshops (Wiener Werkstätte) and opened branches in London, Mailand, Paris, Breslau, Budapest, Kairo, Karlsbad, Bombay, Bucarest, Konstantinopel and Turin. In 1907, the company was transformed into an Aktiengesellschaft.
