The company was founded in 1898 by the Union Elektrizitäts-Gesellschaft (UEG) in Berlin. In 1904, the German parent company was bought by AEG. The Austrian subsidiary however, kept its name until 1959, when it merged with the ELIN Aktiengesellschaft für elektrische Industrie to form ELIN-UNION AG für elektrische Industrie.
