In 1872, the Wiener Bank-Verein was granted a concession to build and operate a railway from Vienna to Pottendorf and to the Hungarian border at Oedenburg. In 1875, the line was integrated into the newly formed Wien-Pottendorf-Wiener-Neustädter Bahn.
