New Zealand Midland Railway Co. Ltd. a group of mortgage bonds comprising £1000, [1889], no.C143, rare high denomination, ony 265 issued; £100, 1895, 3 examples, rare, only 265 issued; £100, [1889], 14 examples, and £12 10s, 1895, 24 examples, all large format with ornate borders, with coupons. The company was formed in 1885 to build a narrow gauge line between Christchurch and Nelson. The company ran out of money and work ceased in 1894 and the Government siezed control of the line, the Government making just a token payment of £150,000 to the company. The first about very fine, the remainder generally very fine and better. (42)
