The Baden mineral hot springs have been famed since at least the Roman era. In 1871, several owners of hotels and spas decided to build a casino to attract international guests. Works started in 1872. In May 1875 the two-storied building and park was opend. As the construction budget of 400'000 Francs was exceeded by 80 percent and the company was close to bancrupcy, the city of Baden took over the Kurhaus.
