Thomas Alexander Scott (1823-1881) was president of the Pennsylvania Railroad (1874-1880), at the time one of largest publicly traded corporations in the world. During the American Civil War, Scott was U.S. Assistant Secretary of War and played a major role in the use of railroads during the war effort of the Union.
