(x) Henry VI (1422-1461), Noble, 7.66g, mule Henry V/VI, class F, annulet issue, London, m.m. lis, henric di gra rex angl z franc dns hyb, king standing facing in ship, holding sword and shield, mullet and annulet by sword arm, trefoil by shield and on ship’s side, quatrefoil over sail, rev. ihc avt transiens per medivm illorv ibat, floriate cross with lis at ends, h in centre, annulet in first spandrel, m.m. lis on reverse only (Whitton mule (a); cf. Schneider 268; N.1374/1414; S.1746/1799), an extremely rare and interesting mule, very fine and clear, a pleasing coin

Nobles were struck muling observe dies of each the last three classes (E, F, and G) of Henry V with annulet reverse dies of Henry VI. All such mules are extremely rare, and the only other F/annulet mule offered at auction in the last 40 years was a coin from the Pulham hoard struck from the same dies as this piece (Christie’s, May 28, 1985, lot 32)
