'In recognition of the meritorious services of the undermentioned gentlemen in connection with the War.
Lieutenant Colonel Hugh Alan Cameron C.I.E., born Tenterden, Kent, January 1871, the son of Lieutenant John Duncan Cameron, late Royal Artillery; educated at Cheltenham College 1884-87, winning a mathematics scholarship in 1885; commissioned Second Lieutenant, Royal Engineers, 1889; promoted Lieutenant, February 1892; served with the Corps during the Sudan War, one of 39 medals issued to an officer; appointed to the Civil Department working upon Railways, March 1897; promoted Captain, 15.2.1900; Major, 1.9.1908; Deputy Traffic Manager, North Western Railway, 1914; promoted Lieutenant Colonel, 18.8.1916; served during the Great War in Mesopotamia as Deputy Director of Railways from 24.2.1917; recalled to India as Railway Controller and Secretary of the Communications Board; following the Great War served as agent to the East Bengal Railway, resigning in 1924; General Manager of the Darjeeling-Himalayan Railway, 1924-27, reportedly being made a Commander of the Belgian Order of the Crown following his work during a Royal visit; died at sea aboard the Llanstephan Castle, 22.2.1929, being buried at sea and recorded as living in Nice, France.
