A Good Campaign Group of Five to Colonel A.H. Ozzard, Royal Marine Light Infantry, Who Commanded The Unit During His Time In Egypt
Crimea 1854-56, one clasp, Sebastopol (A.H. Ozzard. 1st Lieut. R.M.Lt. Infy.), contemporarily engraved in upright serif capitals; China 1857-60, one clasp, Fatshan 1857, unnamed as issued; Egypt 1882-89, undated, two clasps, Suakin 1885, Tofrek (Lieut. Col. A.H. Ozzard, R.M.L.I.); Turkish Crimea, Sardinian die, unnamed as issued; Khedive's Star 1884-6, unnamed as issued, the first, second and fifth with contact marks, therefore very fine, the Egyptian campaign medals nearly extremely fine, housed within a glazed frame (5)
Colonel Albert Henry Ozzard, commissioned Second Lieutenant, Corps of Royal Marines, March 1854; promoted First Lieutenant, March 1855; served with the Royal Marine Brigade during the Crimean War in the combined force before Sebastopol, on the expedition to Kertch, the taking and occupation of the fortress of Yeni-Kale and finally in action in the outer defences at Sebastopol, 17.6.1855; served during the Second China War, in H.M.S. Tribune in a barge during the Escape Creek, 25.5.1857, at the capture and destruction of Chinese war-vessels (Commodore Elliot's Despatch, London Gazette 1.8.1857 refers); married Anne Trowler, the daughter of Paymaster Robert Trowler, Royal Navy, at St. Mary, Walton-on-the-Hill, Lancashire, January 1863; appointed Quartermaster, March 1863; promoted Captain, January 1865; Major, October 1877; Lieutenant Colonel, December 1881; served in Egypt, Commanding the unit from March 1884, arriving in May 1884 aboard the troopship Tyne; during March 1885 the unit distinguished themselves in conjunction with the Berkshire Regiment in successfully capturing Dehlibat Hill during the Battle of Hashin; the Royal Cornwall Gazette of 22.5.1885 confirms the death of Ozzard, who passed away at Forton Barracks, Gosport, Hampshire almost immediately after his return from Egypt, being buried in the Royal Naval Cemetery, Gosport, Hampshire.
