- Three large double-sided annotated photographs (34cm x 26.5cm) from an album, including three group photographs with the recipient identified, two of Parades and one of Wellington College with boys pictured upon the steps
- A leather-bound album of letters, newspaper cuttings and telegrams (72 pages utilised), compiled by the recipient's wife, relating to the recipient's service and private life, a fine item of social history (Lot)

Lieutenant Colonel John Alexander Shakespear Murray, D.S.O., born August 1869; educated at Wellington College, Berkshire; married Constance Ellen Louise Clarke, eldest daughter of Lieutenant Colonel R. Clarke, 7th Dragoon Guards, November 1898; commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Suffolk Regiment, November 1889; initially serving the with 2nd Battalion in Egypt, departing from Depot, December 1889; promoted Lieutenant, April 1892; staff duties with the regiment in India, as Senior Staff Officer, Secunderabad, 1894-97; Aide-de-Camp to General Officer Commanding Burma, 1897-98; promoted Captain, May 1898; served with the regiment in South Africa, including in the Battle of Bergendal, August 1900 and action at Bothwell; seconded to the Army Ordnance Department, 16.2.1904, attached from 18.5.1906; promoted Major, Army Ordnance Department, 16.2.1911; Lieutenant Colonel, 3.12.1914; served with the Department as Assistant Director of Ordnance Services with the Canadian Forces and 5th Corps during the Great War on the Western Front being thrice Mentioned in Desptaches and created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order in 1917; retired, Royal Army Ordnance Corps, 15.11.1920 with service totalling 31 years 6 days; Murray was also a keen prize-winning amateur golfer and apprehended an robber in Farnborough during 1916.
