Captain Ivan Sergejevitch Makarkmin, born Mordovia, Russia, 7.9.1919; served during the Second World War as Captain of a Trench Mortar Company in the defence of Stalingrad; wounded during the liberation of Siavlai, Lithuania; after the War married Maria Terentjevna Babikova and employed as a Supervisor of a Correctional Colony for underage juveniles, Vilnius, Lithuania; died, Vilnius, 6.5.1993.
Lieutenant Nurse Maria Terentjevna Babikova, born Kizel, Perm, Russia, 18.1.1916; served during the Second World War as a Nurse with a Mobile Surgical Hospital; after the War married Captain Ivan Sergejevitch Makarkmin and employed as a pharmacist in Vilnius, Lithuania; died, Vilnius, 6.10.1993.
The two met during the battles of liberation in Siavlai, Lithuania. Makarkmin was wounded and nursed by Babikova.
