Lieutenant-Commander John Culf, M.B.E., born Chatham, Kent, April 1898; joined the Royal Navy as Boy Shipwright, 6.8.1913; served during the Great War in H.M.S. Pembroke II; advanced Warrant Shipwright, 29.9.1927; Commissioned Shipwright, 29.9.1937; served during the Second World War in H.M.S. Leander; promoted Shipwright Lieutenant, 17.1.1943; transferred to Naval Equipment Department, 1.8.1943; subsequently served in H.M.S. Pembroke as Acting Shipwright Lieutenant-Commander; retired, 1950.
