Auction: 160 - The Henry "Hap" Pattiz Collection of Nepal
Lot: 2208

Hellrigl #38d, e, 1917-30 2a Venetian red on native paper, imperforate, complete sheet of 56, setting 27, used sheet with mostly full wide margins (thinning of the inferior paper affects bottom right stamp), Smythies considered this setting and the brown red shades associated with it to be the rarest of the Two Annas settings, it is certainly unusual having "cleaned lettering" making the letters stand out but distorting the inscriptions, this setting is identified by six inverted cliches found in positions 8, 14-15, 18, 19 and 48, which is unique to settings with the full 56 cliches, Birganj telegraph cancels, bright and scarcer color, paper is very thin creating flaws and causing some of the impression to be erratic, fine and scarce; (Scott #15, a var.; S.G. #36, a; £3,260+).
