Auction: 160 - The Henry "Hap" Pattiz Collection of Nepal
Lot: 2074
Hellrigl #7a, 1886-89 1a Grey blue, early printings on native paper of good quality, imperforate, tete-beche pair, settings 4-6, positions 51-52 ( 52 being the inverted cliche), unused without gum as issued, attractive horiz. pair with well clear to extra-large margins all around, characteristic shade for these first three settings of the 1a on native paper, very fine; settings 4-6 are very scarce with no full sheets known; positions 55 and 62 are known to be inverted in setting 6 and presumed to be inverted in setting 4 and 5 though only 62 is confirmed in setting 5; standard catalog values do not really apply to this pair as Scott is for all the settings of 1886-98 (settings 4-17) of which there numerous inverted cliches making their listing very low and does not apply at all, while S.G. is for the early printings of 1886-89 but includes setting 8 which has three inverted cliches and are much more readily available; Hellrigl notes that tete-beche pairs of settings 4-6 are extremely rare with only four or five having been found; an important position piece for the specialized collection; 1985 Hellrigl certificate (Scott #7 var.; S.G. #7a; £600+).
