Auction: 160 - The Henry "Hap" Pattiz Collection of Nepal
Lot: 2044

Hellrigl #4a, 1881 1a Dull deep blue on European wove paper, imperforate, setting 2, positions 58-60, unused bottom margin partial imprint strip of three, without gum as issued, exceptionally large margins on the other three sides as well, strong color and impression on bright white paper, extremely fine; this is a wonderful position piece that does not depend on just the color for identification, Hellrigl states that the inscriptions of setting 2 is exactly the same as setting one without the fancy border, but that is not true in the bottom inscription, the middle letter below the left pair in this strip lacks the two flourishes at top that are found on the other three sides and on all four sides of setting 1, this is confirmed by comparing the sheets of both settings that are contained in this collection; all multiples with marginal inscriptions are very rare and especially so for this key piece showing the difference between setting 1 and 2 (Scott #4; $525.00+; S.G. #4a; £675+; catalog values are for three normal singles).
