Hellrigl #4, 1881 1a Ultramarine on European wove paper, imperforate, complete sheet of 64, setting 1, unused without gum as issued, a handsome and extraordinarily rare sheet possessing large sheet selvages all around measuring 250x260mm showing the inscriptions and the fancy ornaments on all four sides, the fancy ornaments are the defining characteristic of this setting, deep rich color and detailed impression, excellent for plating and showing all sixteen of the constant plate flaws, one central vert. fold between rows and three horiz. folds lightly affecting the top and bottom rows but all are hardly apparent from the front, positions 54 and 57 are affected by small splashes of light ms. ink of unknown origin, very fine; the impressive fancy margins are only found on settings 1 of the One Anna and Two Anna value, the one known 2a sheet was last seen in 1939 and has not been seen since; the inventory of 1a sheets total three, one gummed pin-perforated sheet (offered above), the sheet offered here is one of two imperforate sheets known; an incredible exhibition sheet worthy of the finest collection; (Scott #4; $11,200.00+; S.G. #4; £14,400+; catalog values are for 64 normal singles).
