Auction: 154 - The Philatelic Collector's Series Sale
Lot: 690

#19a, 1907 "1D" Surcharge on 5/-, double surcharge, an incredibly rare used example of this double surcharge error, showing a clear doubling of the handstamp, portion of double ring Georgetown Ty. V c.d.s., very fine; actually this used example should be considered the rarest of the double surcharges, as there are several mint examples known singly and in multiples, but this is one of a mere two recorded examples of a postally used double "1D" surcharge on the Five Shilling King Edward VII, the other example having been sold by us in a part of the Richard Maisel collection in 2007; an astounding rarity which no award winning collection would be complete without; 1945 RPS certificate; (S.G. #19a; £22,000 as mint, unpriced used).
